Education Required: High School diploma. Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) maintenance / avionics training or aircraft maintenance / avionics training. A minimum of 2 years work experience with or without a degree.
Education Desired: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Electronics, Engineering or related field.
Skills Required: Maintenance and logistic support of small / tactical UAS that are larger than hand-launched systems. Performs system installation and hardware/software maintenance support for UAS, in accordance with BOSH and customer specifications. Must meet minimum military health standards for worldwide deployment. Must be a U.S. citizen with a current government security clearance.
Skills Desired: Over two years experience as a UAS of Group Two Platforms or aircraft mechanic or avionics technician. Prior military service. Recent deployment.
Location: Training is located at Fort Pickett, VA for approx 2 months: Deployment is at Foward Operating Bases OCONUS for 6 – 12 months.
Position Description: The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Maintainer is responsible for performing day-to-day operational maintenance of the Aerosonde SUAS and sub-systems in accordance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and Site Lead guidance; maintaining assigned aircraft, Ground Control Stations (GCS), antennas, and ground support equipment (catapult, recovery system, etc.) in full mission capable status while continually improving local maintenance processes. Tasks include conducting inspections, performing servicing and preventive maintenance, performing troubleshooting and repair, and performing maintenance record keeping (updating maintenance log books, spreadsheets, and providing maintenance input for SITREP) on components including airframe parts (wing, fuselage, tail, control surfaces, landing gear, etc.), control surface actuators/linkages, engine, engine control unit, fuel system, avionics, communications equipment, cables, wiring, and electric power regulation and distribution units.
The UAS Maintainer must have the ability to interpret technical documentation including schematics and wiring diagrams, implement and track service notices, evaluate and isolate malfunctions, perform mechanical and electrical repairs to equipment; and support all facets of UAS ground operations to include system assembly/setup and disassembly/teardown at assigned location and daily launch and recovery operations. Professional performance with minimal guidance and direction is expected. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team environment is essential. Visual acuity requirement is the minimum standard for those whose work deals largely with visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and computer terminals; and using measuring devices.
While operating from the deployed location, all personnel are responsible to, and work directly for, the assigned Site Lead, regardless of parent company. Operators and Maintainers will be integrated into the daily flying/maintenance schedule and are not solely responsible for one area of the deployment location requirements. Personnel should expect to participate in all facets of the operation to support mission requirements.
