Responsible for the daily management, administration, organization and planning to support the departments Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program Oversees the development of procedures and programs related to department, management, fire ground operations, training, or other related responsibilities associated with the EMS program.

Manages all aspects of EMS programs on the project level with the operations component of the Fire Department EMS program through a staff of Fire Paramedics/EMTs assigned to the EMS department or the administration of the EMS program through outside administrative and medical support personnel. Organizes, develops, and publishes work and training schedules that will direct the functions of the EMS program. Maintains contact and participates, when necessary, with appropriate departments, project management, and program management to stay abreast of applicable developments that might affect the department. Provides recommendations for obtaining, purchasing, and maintaining vehicles and supporting equipment to assure
proper EMS capabilities are maintained. Ensure the safety of all firefighters by requiring proper procedures are followed. Is the Acting EMS Fire Chief in the Chief’s absence with responsibly for the Fire Emergency Services EMS program.

Position may be located in a war zone in a contingency environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions, including lifting and carrying 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. To ensure safety, health, and security measures within the contract are met, all employees shall be literate in English (read, write, speak and understand).

Living conditions on the project are most likely austere. The most austere sleeping may be in environmentally conditioned tents on “Army type” cots. Restrooms and showers may be 250 feet or further from sleeping quarters. Laundry service for 15 pounds twice per week is commonly provided. Meals are provided at regular intervals in cafeteria or “dining facility” style environment. Living area will most likely have constant hum of generators or similar equipment nearby.

Basic Job Requirements – Must have a current State and/or National Register Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Paramedic certification and able to maintain registry
– Must have a current certification in American Heart Association ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
– Must have certification in PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) “Or the Equivalent”
– All certifications must have minimum 6 months validity on them
– Must possess a secret-level security clearance
High school diploma / GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and seven (7) years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications – Have the following International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (Pro-Board)
— Fire Fighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, Fire Officer IV, Fire
Inspector II, Fire Instructor II
– Certification in National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: ICS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800
– Certification in NAEMS (National Association of EMS) for AMLS (Advance Medical Life Support)
– Certification in International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
– Certification in PALS (Pediatric Advance Life Support)
– Certification as a FP-C (Certified Flight Paramedic) and/ or CCP-C (Certified Critical Care Paramedic)
– Valid NCCPA certification and state licensure required
– All certifications must have minimum 6 months validity on them
– Paramedic Science Degree level as a Paramedic Practitioner or Critical Care Paramedic or equivalent professional qualifications from a recognized
degree program
– Prior Military and/or Contingency Operations experience
