SOS International LLC (SOSi) is seeking an Airfield Safety Manager to support our Program Management Office (PMO) at a Forward Operating Base (FOB_ in Iraq. The Airfield Safety Manager is responsible for providing guidance and direction for the planning, implementation, and operation of the organization’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Plan on the airfield. The Airfield Safety Manager reports to the Director of Airfield Operations and coordinates Airfield Safety Measures with the Balad BLSS Program HSE Manager.


• Serves as member of the SOSi PMO in Iraq and program lead in charge of implementation and management of the HSE program in support of SOSi programs and projects in Iraq
• Assists SOSi PMO team in development of enterprise level HSE Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and strategy for the airfield to be utilized in support of the corporate HSE program initiative
• Demonstrates and excellent safety behavior and attitude, follows regulatory practices and rules, recognizes and promotes hazard reporting and ensures effective airfield safety reporting
• Models and promotes an organizational culture that fosters safety practices through effective leadership
• Acts as an information conduit to bring airfield safety issues to the attention of management and deliver airfield safety information to the organization’s staff, contractors, and stakeholders
• Responsible for development, implementation, and training of Airfield Vehicle Operator’s Safety Course to all personnel that will require access to the airfield.
• Provides and articulates airfield safety information to the organization
• Assists in the continuous improvement of hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and the organizations HSE Plan
• Builds and maintains an excellent working relationship with the organizations Safety Team within the program HSE Office
• Implement airfield safety procedures to ensure a safe operating environment for personnel and aircraft operation
• Assist in responding to aircraft and medical emergencies, assists others during emergencies
• Manage wildlife on and around airport grounds
• Coordinate with agencies such as air traffic control, civil engineers, and command posts to ensure support of airfield management activities
• Anticipate aircraft equipment needs for air evacuation and cargo flights
• Post visual display airfield safety boards and status boards
• Represents the organization on government, international organization and industry committees for airfield safety as it pertains to ICAO, IATA, CAA, AIB, etc.
• Analyses technical data for trends related to hazards, events and occurrences
• Effectively utilizes HSE processes and procedures to fulfill roles and responsibilities
• Investigates and recommends opportunities to increase the efficiency of HSE processes and procedures
• Assists SOSi PMO in dialogue with the USAF and USACE entities during development of airfield safety efforts
• Maintains accountability for HSE aspects of Airfield Operations, and insures compliance with design standards, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures; keeping current and familiar with both US and International standards and requirements
• Assists the SOSi Talent Acquisition Team in recruitment of HSE consultants and SOSi personnel as identified required
• Responsible for development and assessment of Emergency Action Plans and Fire Prevention Plans as specified by 29 CFR 1910
• Responsible for inspection of all Safety related Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure that it is in compliance with all specified safety policies, procedures and regulations
• Assists in the development of Ground and Airfield Safety Program, Policies, and Procedures
• Provides effective guidance on procurement actions for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Safety Equipment, and other HSE supplies and materials
• Maintains accountability for project implementation compliance with regulations, laws, policies, and procedures while also thoroughly familiar with relevant US and host country regulations and laws as well as SOSi policies and procedures
• Ensures corporate/client branding requirements are met during all aspects of work performance
• Performs and supports other related duties/functions as assigned

• Bachelor’s Degree in Airfield Safety Management
• Must have valid motor vehicle operator’s license
• Proven knowledge of Aviation Safety Legislation and ICAO Annexes
• Minimum of seven (7) years of specialized HSE experience in Airfield Safety Operations
• Strong working knowledge of Aviation Safety Management System (SMS) Software Program
• Minimum 15 years specialized experience in HSE operations with focus on Construction Safety, Airfield Safety Operations, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Safety Reporting, Environmental Safety Policy and Procedures, and Industrial Health and Safety Operations
• Must have a minimum of five years of experience working in similar or progressive HSE positions similar in scope and responsibility as detailed above on either an AFCAP or LOGCAP program in the Middle East or Africa, preferably Afghanistan or Iraq
• Must be capable of deploying to a potential hostile contingency environment and possess previous experience conducting HSE actions
• Possess OSHA 18001 Management System Certification and OSHA 14001 Certification
• Must be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Manager (CSM) and/or NEBOSH equivalent certification required as specified by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE)
• Working knowledge of US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and US Air Force (USAF) Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM385-1-1 and AFI 91-203 Consolidated Occupational Safety and Health Instruction
• Must have four year degree, preferably in Safety or Business Management
• Must be self-motivated and able to work effectively with multi-cultural teams and PMO
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and on a team
• Proven experience displaying ability to staff, organize, lead and manage a diverse work force larger than 10 people
• Demonstrable proficiency in MS Office suite (or comparable), and project management platforms
• Ability to track, monitor, mediate and oversee the development of approaches and solutions to HSE related issues including managing investigations of accidents and near-misses, summarization of findings, and recommendations of strategies to prevent recurrences
• Ability to pass basic medical physical and background checks sufficient for duty in a contingency/military environment

Preferred Skills/Attributes:

• Graduate degree in Occupational Health & Safety
• Prior military service or current military service (reserves)
• Previous LOGCAP, AFCAP experience
• Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
• LOGCAP/Military management experience is preferable
• Work experience in hazardous environments desired
